China's National Day is celebrated on Oct. 1 every year to commemorate the founding of People’s Republic of China. On that day, lots of large-scale activities are held nationwide. The 7-day holiday takes place from Oct. 1 to 7. It is called "Golden Week”, during which many Chinese people travel around their country. Every year on Oct. 1, there is a special flag raising ceremony in Tian’anmen Square. The square is decorated festively with flags and portraits. Exactly at sunrise, uniformed troops march out to start the flag raising ceremony. Other activities, such as song and dance shows, firework displays, and calligraphy exhibitions are also held to celebrate the National Day.
